Early Commencement Participation

The opportunity to submit an Early Participation form for the spring 2020 virtual ceremonies has passed. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Early commencement participation is attending a commencement ceremony during a session before degree requirements have been met and your degree has been conferred. Professional, Master's and Doctoral students should speak with their college to determine early participation eligibility.

Eligibility Requirements

Early participation forms do not constitute a degree application. Early participation forms must be completed independently of degree applications. Please see the Degree Application page for more information.

Students must meet eligibility requirements and have permission to participate early. A student must be enrolled in one of the following:

  • Internship
  • Student Teaching
  • Study Abroad
  • An Alternate Institution (Must provide copy of current registration)
  • OR must be within 12 semester hours of completing degree requirements after the current semester.

Additional Information

Please be advised that early participant names will not be printed in commencement programs. The commencement program only includes the names of students who intend to receive a degree that session, not future sessions.

Participation in a commencement ceremony does not guarantee a degree. Students must complete a degree application through MyUI for the session in which all requirements will be met.

Students who have questions about eligibility or participation should contact Graduation Services in the UI Service Center.

Students in colleges not listed on the early participation form should contact their respective commencement coordinators. Collegiate commencement coordinator information is on the Need Help? page.
