Doors will open one hour prior to ceremony start. No tickets required. Select College of Liberal Arts and Sciences majors along with University College Bachelor of Applied Studies (BAS) and Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) graduates will be recognized. - List of majors recognized at 1 p.m. ceremony.

Order of Events

Dean Sara Sanders and President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees. The student speaker with be Hope Hjelmeland, of Humboldt, Iowa, who will receive Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and public policy and ethics, as well as a minor in gender, women’s, and sexuality studies. Brandon Burkhardt, of Coralville, Iowa, will perform the national anthem and will receive a Bachelor of Arts in music (performance-voice) and a Bachelor of Arts in theatre arts (music theatre).

If you can't tune in to the livestream during the live broadcast or if you have trouble with the embedded video a copy will be available on the University of Iowa YouTube channel when the ceremony begins.

  • Doors to Carver-Hawkeye Arena will open one hour prior to the start of the ceremony. Graduates should arrive no later than 15 minutes after the doors open. The East Entrance is designated as express entry for graduates only. Graduates may also enter through the South and West doors.
  • Arrive for your ceremony with cap, gown, and tassel. Apparel WILL NOT be available for purchase at the ceremony
  • Graduates should proceed down the stairs to the floor to their designated card hand-out table. 
  • Please Note:
    • All items and people are subject to any search deemed necessary by the University of Iowa Police
    • No outside food or beverages except one unopened water bottle per guest will be allowed in the auditorium.
    • Items that cannot be searched by security personnel are strictly prohibited; wrapped packages will not be allowed.

Graduating students should proceed down to the arena floor and find the name card table for their last name. Volunteers can assist with name card location. Hold onto your name card; your name card will be scanned and then handed to the name reader prior to crossing the stage. 

If you arrive with a coat or purse, make arrangements to leave these items with a family member or friend. Backpacks are not allowed. You should not have anything in your hand other than your photo name card when the processional begins and throughout the ceremony. Cell phones should be silenced or turned off.

Tickets are not required for guests attending this ceremony, and there is no limit to how many guests can attend.
