Doors open one hour prior to the start of the ceremony. No tickets required.

All College of Liberal Arts and Sciences students will be recognized; University College will also be attending the ceremony.

Dean Sara Sanders and President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees at the ceremony, which includes graduates in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Public Health, and University College.

The student speaker will be David Roth, of Peosta, Iowa, who will receive a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with University Honors and Highest Distinction. Christian Frankl, of Ames, Iowa, will perform the national anthem. Frankl is the Hawkeye Marching Band drum major and will graduate with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music, Political Science, and Ethics and Public Policy.

The ceremony will be livestreamed with captions enabled.

Ceremony Information

  • Apparel sales and ordering information is available on the Apparel page.
  • Required for all College of Liberal Arts and Sciences graduates
    • Bachelor gown
    • Mortarboard cap
    • White tassel
  • Doors to Carver-Hawkeye Arena will open one hour prior to the start of the ceremony. Graduates should arrive no later than 15 minutes after the doors open. The East Entrance is designated as express entry for graduates only. Graduates may also enter through the South and West doors.
  • Arrive for your ceremony with cap, gown, and tassel. Apparel WILL NOT be available for purchase at the ceremony
  • Graduates should proceed down the stairs to the floor to their designated card hand-out table. 
  • Please Note:

    • All items and people are subject to any search deemed necessary by the University of Iowa Police

    • No outside food or beverages except one unopened water bottle per guest will be allowed in the auditorium.

    • Items that cannot be searched by security personnel are strictly prohibited; wrapped packages will not be allowed.

Graduating students should proceed to the name card table for their last name. Volunteers can assist with name card location. Hold onto your name card; your name card will be scanned and then handed to the name reader prior to crossing the stage. 

If you arrive with a coat or purse, make arrangements to leave these items with a family member or friend. Backpacks are not allowed. You should not have anything in your hand other than your photo name card when the processional begins and throughout the ceremony. Cell phones should be silenced or turned off.

Graduates will be seated in four seating blocks on the floor in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Guest seating is first-come, first serve. Additional information is available on the Guest Information page. 

Tickets are not required for guests attending this ceremony, and there is no limit to how many guests can attend.
